What is somatic therapy?
‘Soma’ means the body. Somatic therapy is a bottom-up approach that focuses on the physical sensations and feelings in your body. This approach often works well in place of more traditional talking therapies, particularly for those of us who find it more challenging to put emotions into words.
What do sessions look like?
In our sessions, we work slowly and collaboratively, paying attention to what is happening in your body as well as your thoughts and emotions. This might include noticing sensations, exploring patterns, and gently building your capacity to stay with your experience without overwhelm. We can learn how your nervous system works and how best to resource it at your own pace. There is no pressure to perform or “fix” anything; this is a space to listen, feel, and make sense of your inner world.
Over time, this process can support you to feel more at home in your body, better understand your emotional landscape, and move through life with more steadiness and self-trust.
The way I work
Sessions last for 55 minutes and are held Monday to Thursday, working to European time zones. I am currently only offering remote sessions via Zoom.
For some, committing to a full hour each week may feel like too much at first. With this in mind, I offer the option to split the hour into two 30-minute sessions, usually on Mondays and Thursdays. This can help us create a sense of safety and give you the opportunity to gradually become familiar with our rhythm and ways of working together before transitioning to fuller sessions.
Fees
A session with me is offered on a sliding scale between £55 – £70, and I offer discounts when block booking sessions.
I aim to make my practice accessible to those on a low income and do have a number of low cost sessions available. I prioritise people from LGBTQIA+, disabled, and neuro-minority communities. You’re welcome to mention needing low-cost sessions when booking an intro call, but there’s no need to explain or prove anything; I offer these spaces based on trust.
About me
Hello! I’m Reed. My pronouns are they/them. Some labels I use are: Non-binary, transgender, autistic, white, animist, queer, polyamorous, artist. I am passionate about disability and trans* justice.
After over a decade of providing support and care to disabled, chronically ill and neurodivergent communities, I found myself wanting to provide healing spaces for trauma away from a clinical environment. With my personal therapy journey leading me to somatics, I very quickly became fascinated with how the tools I learnt meant I was more able to live in the present, feel safer in my body and move through the world better resourced.
As a trauma-trained somatic care worker, I include a blend of coaching, therapy and counselling to provide a human, relational and body-led approach to healing. I like to think of my space as a counterbalance to the pathologising environments many of us encounter in clinical mental health settings. It also responds to the culture of toxic positivity and spiritual bypassing often found in the wellness industry.
Both my professional background and lived experience have shaped this embodied approach. I am autistic and live with C-PTSD, and I navigate the world as a transgender, non-binary person. I have experience supporting people with and without formal diagnoses, including neurodivergence, chronic fatigue, EDS, anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
